Over the years, the tight end has been a bit of a transition position for current and former players on the Buffalo Bills. The team saw Jason Peters, who was signed as undrafted free agent, move from tight end to becoming one of the better left tackles in the league.

They have also seen players change positions to become tight ends with Logan Thomas being the most notable. He entered the league as a quarterback but moved to tight end and the Bills had signed him off the Detroit Lions practice squad during the 2016 season.

Thomas would play two seasons for the Bills and finish with 19 receptions and 144 receiving yards and one touchdown. He had a breakout season this past year with Washington and finished with 72 receptions and over 600 receiving yards.

This offseason, it was reported earlier that Kelvin Benjamin, another former Buffalo Bills wide receiver was attempting to make the move to tight end with the New York Giants. He is now reportedly going to be joined by Jordan Matthews, who was with the Bills in 2017, as another former wide receiver trying to make the position switch.

According to Turron Davenport of ESPN, Matthews has added about 30 pounds and has been working out at the University of Louisville.

Matthews has played seven years in the NFL, starting with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was then traded before the 2017 season, along with a third round pick, to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for Ronald Darby.

He would play only 12 games due to a hand injury midseason and then a knee injury in December that was season-ending. Matthews would finish the year with only 25 receptions, 282 receiving yards, and one touchdown.

If Matthews does sign with a new team this offseason, he would join Benjamin, as well as former quarterback Tim Tebow, as veterans switching to the tight end position.
