How the Buffalo Bills defensive assistant coaches impact the team
Nickel Coach: Jim Salgado
Jim Salgado got his first run in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills in 2017 after 22 years in the college ranks throughout the northeast. Salgado joined Buffalo as a Defensive Assistant but was promoted to Nickel Coach before the 2020 season. Salgado has done a very good job so far as the nickel coach for the Bills.
Just in 2020 alone, Taron Johnson (the Bills nickel corner) had two of the biggest interceptions in the franchise’s history. While Salgado has worked with the nickel corners most of his time during Buffalo, his impact is clearly made. In the NFL coaches don’t get promoted for doing substandard work.
Buffalo has seen the progression made by Johnson and other players who have manned the nickel spot over the years. Players such as Siran Neal and Dean Marlowe have helped produce. Salgado has shown to be a very good hire by McDermott and will have a strong resume to build upon based on what he has been able to accomplish in Buffalo.
