Safeties Coach: Bobby Babich

The son of Bob Babich, Bobby came to the Buffalo Bills in 2017 alongside his father. The younger Babich played cornerback for North Dakota State, and has also spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Florida International as a coach. Promoted to safeties coach in 2018, Babich has been coaching one of the NFL’s best safety duos in Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Babich was even given credit as an important reason why Poyer is even in Buffalo after coaching him briefly in Cleveland.

Babich continues to coach one of the best safety duos in the league and really does not receive enough recognition for it. Babich does have a big task on his hands heading into the 2021 season. The Bills top backup safety for the past two seasons, Dean Marlowe signed with the Detroit Lions during the offseason.

Babich has some young players in Josh Thomas, Jaquan Johnson, Damar Hamlin, and Tariq Thompson. Of those four guys at least two will make the roster, and one will need to be ready to take on a full-time backup role to safeties Hyde and Poyer.

While Hyde and Poyer have proven to be extremely durable each has missed a game before. In 2020, Dean Marlowe did a fantastic job filling in for Micah Hyde for a game. Babich will be tasked with making at least one of these young safeties ready to potentially play during the season.
