The run game for the Buffalo Bills has certainly been a topic of discussion after the 2020 season. The expectations were high entering last season after a promising rookie season from Devin Singletary and him being paired with Zack Moss, who the Bills drafted in the third round last year.

It would be fair to say that they didn’t reach those expectations with the two backs combining for only 1,168 rushing yards. However, the offense shifted last year from being a balanced attack to more of a pass heavy attack and didn’t need the run game often weeks.

Also when adding in the fact that Josh Allen is a mobile quarterback that takes some of the work away from running backs, it is certainly understandable why the two backs didn’t have higher rushing yard totals.

Even when taking into account those factors, there is room for improvement and the franchise likely explored that. One of those possibilities was to bring in another running back, and the Bills were rumored to be interested in Travis Etienne which certainly would have changed that dynamic drastically at the position.

Recently, Devin Singletary was asked about the noise outside of the locker room, which was likely in reference to some of these offseason rumors. Singletary responded by saying that, “No that’s just noise. I don’t pay attention to it. There’s always going to be noise.”

The challenge for Singletary, and Moss as well, is that opportunities to make an impact are going to be limited this season. When an offense has a quarterback like Josh Allen, there isn’t a reason to take the ball out of his hand. Brian Daboll recently talked about this and said the focus should be more on efficiency from these running backs.

This is a pivotal year for Devin Singletary entering his third season with the Buffalo Bills and it will be interesting to see if he can make a bigger impact this coming season even without an increase in the workload.
