Kansas City Chiefs
Key Additions: Orlando Brown Jr., Joe Thuney, Austin Blythe, Creed Humphrey, Kyle Long, Jarran Reed, Nick Bolton
The Kansas City Chiefs were one of the best teams in the NFL after reaching the Super Bowl but coming up short against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the big game. While the Chiefs didn’t have to make big changes, the moves they did make addressed their biggest weakness.
One of the reasons the Bucs were able to come away with the win was due to their ability to put pressure on Patrick Mahomes after the Chiefs’ offensive line struggled. The Chiefs went out and traded with for Orlando Brown Jr. to protect Mahomes’ blindside at left tackle.
However, that wasn’t the only move they made on the offensive line as they added Joe Thuney, one of the top guards in the NFL, as well as Kyle Long, who is returning to the NFL after being retired for one season. They also signed free agent Austin Blythe at center but drafted Creed Humphrey, who was one of the top prospects at the position in the NFL Draft.
The hope was that the Bucs unlocked the gameplan that the Buffalo Bills could use to beat the Chiefs. However, the Chiefs identified a weakness and significantly upgraded it this offseason.
