Best Buffalo Bills player to wear number 1: Mike Hollis, Kicker

When we think of the all-time great kickers in Bills history, certainly Mike Hollis comes to mind, right? Probably not. Hollis spent seven years with the Jacksonville Jaguars before coming to Buffalo for the 2002 season. He’d make 25/33 field goals, for a percentage that was good for 75.8%.

Hollis beat out the only two other players to ever wear the number 1 jersey. That’s right, this number has only been worn in a season by three total players at the time of this writing (Emmanuel Sanders is exempt because he hasn’t played a game with the Bills yet). The only two other players were both kickers named Efren Herrera and Benny Ricardo, who played in 1982 and 1976 respectively.

I thought there would be more of a competition for this number, but Hollis’ field goal percentage soared above the other two players easily. I expect Sanders to take over this spot after the season is over.
