Of course everyone has their eyes on the Super Bowl trophy, but the Buffalo Bills have a chance to score some other hardware in 2021 as well. The Bills were well represented at the NFL honors awards in 2020 with Josh Allen finishing second in MVP voting, Coach McDermott finishing second in coach of the year, and Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll winning the Assistant Coach of the Year vote.

With a loaded roster, the Bills once again will have a good chance of taking home some individual hardware and this article will distinguish the best candidates.

MVP

The Bills leading MVP candidate is none other than Josh Allen, after finishing second in the voting a year ago he will look to take a step forward and win the award in 2021. Most of the MVP voting comes down to team record and touchdowns.

Both Allen and Rodgers led their teams to 13-3 records a year ago but Rodgers had 51 total touchdowns compared to Allen’s 45, and 5 interceptions compared to 10 for Allen. It is interesting to note that Allen led the league in pro football reference’s Approximate Value Stat, meaning he actually was the most valuable player a year ago.

Winning the MVP is never going to be easy, but it is very much in reach for Josh Allen. The Bills running back position is still a very big question mark, so it’s unlikely he will have many touchdowns vultured by running backs. With the addition of Emmanuel Sanders to the offense it’s very probable Allen can put up another 40+ touchdown season and find himself right in the thick of the race.

For Josh to win MVP the Bills will also need to experience a lot of team success, the last 4 MVPs have come from teams who were the #1 seed in their conference. So the recipe for Josh Allen is simple, 45+ touchdowns and the #1 seed in the AFC, seems easy enough.
