In terms of the NFL calendar, June 1st is rather important in terms of how teams manage their salary cap. After this day, the Buffalo Bills, or any team, can release a player and split any dead cap space between this season and next.

This is important to the Buffalo Bills for two reasons and the first is that they can create some additional cap space by releasing a player at this point in the offseason. However, this is also something other teams are likely to take advantage of that can make some veterans available that could help the Buffalo Bills in their quest for a Super Bowl title.

At the top of this list is without question wide receiver Julio Jones who the Atlanta Falcons have been actively shopping in the trade market. This is a player that the Buffalo Bills are unlikely to try and trade for but they certainly need to be paying close attention to.

The main reason is that two teams that seem to be likely landing spots are two teams that are on the Bills schedule this coming season. The first is the Tennessee Titans, who could use a veteran like Jones to pair with their young star receiver in A.J. Brown. This would make that offense much tougher to defend with a powerful running back like Derrick Henry and two excellent wide receivers on the outside.

The other team is the New England Patriots who have been very active this offseason in trying to overhaul their roster. They added players like Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, and Nelson Agholor but are lacking a true number one wide receiver. However, the Patriots are reportedly being a little more ‘cautious’ in their pursuit.

The Falcons are likely to drag this process out much longer and now the dead cap space of trading Jones is much more manageable with the June 1st deadline passed.
