Pro Football Focus published their QB rankings for 2021. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen is NOT in the top 5.

The rankings, published on May 18th, ranked all of the starting quarterbacks. The top five is the source of discussion, as Allen was behind Deshaun Watson, coming in at sixth-best. PFF Cited Allen’s “turnover-worthy plays” as their biggest concern. I have a few problems with this:

  1. Watson commandeered arguably the worst team in the league last year, and despite him leading the NFL in passing yards, Watson had 7 interceptions and 8 fumbles himself, a total of 15. Allen had 19 combined (10 INT, 9 fumbles). Is the difference really that much?
  2. Watson was on one of the worst teams in the league. While it is certainly possible that a good player can exist on a bad team, the idea of ranking an AFC Championship game QB over one who’s only ever gotten to the divisional round is pretty laughable.
  3. The offensive line and cohesion in the offense itself should be way better than it was last year, and hopefully with improvement from the run game will only make the Buffalo Bills offense more effective.
  4. If Watson only had ~300 more yards than Allen, is he really that much better? Just food for thought.

For Allen to be ranked behind Watson blows my mind. As I said before, the difference in the quality of the team is where PFF got it wrong. When you compare the stats, they are very similar from last season, minus the rushing touchdowns being more favored to Allen’s 8 to Watson’s 3.

Next. Special teams crucial to Bills title chances. dark

I can see where it’s pretty much a coin flip at this moment, but I’d like to put forth the notion to re-order this list easily. This doesn’t affect the Buffalo Bills in any manner, maybe just more bulletin-board material for the season.
