File this under some unexpected news.

Could Tyrann Mathieu be part of the Buffalo Bills next year? An article published by fellow FanSided NFL writer Steven Kubitza compiled all of the evidence about Tyrann Mathieu possibly not getting a contract extension from the Chiefs. A Chiefs fan tweeted out if there was a chance of an extension for the 3 time Prow Bowler and Super Bowl champ Safety, Matheiu personally responded with “Probably not. Been here before. All good.

While this is Mathieu’s final season under his original three-year deal, the Chiefs would be absolutely insane to even let this be a possibility. In the rare chance that he does, the Buffalo Bills must ABSOLUTELY break the bank for him. He’d fit right in alongside Jordan Poyer and here are some more reasons:

  1. Buffalo has no real vocal captain of the defense. Now, this may be my outside perspective of not having been around the Bills for as long as others. But if you were to ask fans of other teams who is the defensive captain for the team? Is it really Jordan Poyer, who on the surface is more reserved? I just can’t bring myself to name anyone.
  2. Mathieu is such a spark plug for any defense he plays for. When he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2013, I was there for his very first preseason game in Green Bay, WI. I could just tell that he was going to be a great player for the Cardinals, and he was.
  3. Micah Hyde did just sign an extension through 2023, however take a look at when we compare their career stats:

It’s easy to see the difference and I don’t need to say too much past this point. If Buffalo does actually beat the Chiefs this year (as I called for in the top 5 hardest games article I wrote), it may have some influence on where he signs if he is a free agent. The Chiefs could be playing a very dangerous game just like Arizona did with Mathieu. He still has a lot in the tank left and maybe one of the top free agents next season, joining those on this list.

Next. These are the players from the Bills that you should and should not add in fantasy football. dark

This is a can’t-miss opportunity for the Buffalo Bills if it happens. Break the bank, Brandon Beane.
