The Buffalo Bills drafted three players on the offensive line during the 2021 NFL Draft but that didn’t stop them from adding more depth with the signing of offensive tackle Syrus Tuitele out of Fresno State. Let’s take a look at what he brings to the team and how he might fit on the Bills.

Measurables/Stats

Height: 6’6″

Weight: 318 pounds

Tuitele appeared in nine games as a freshman but this was mostly on special teams on field goal and extra point attempts. However, in 2018 he would start 12 games at right tackle for Fresno State.

In 2019, Tuitele would start eight games but saw his season cut short due to injury. He returned this past season as a senior and started all six games at right tackle and was named second team All-Mountain West.

NFL.com’s Scouting Report by Lance Zierlein

"After playing right tackle at Fresno State, Tuitele will need to make a move inside to guard for his shot as a pro. His pass sets and overall athleticism aren’t a match for the tackle spot in the NFL and he needs to prove he can use his size along the interior as a drive blocker. He might improve his consistency as both a run and pass blocker with better hand accuracy and usage. Tuitele has favorable size, but he lacks the body control and skill of a pro lineman."

How he might fit with the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills already have great depth on their offensive line and they likely are going to have some tough decisions as they cut down the roster before the start of the season. It certainly appears it would be tough for Syrus Tuitele to make the 53-man roster but there should be an opening on the team’s practice squad.

The Bills did lose Trey Adams, who was an undrafted free agent signing last offseason, this year as he retired after spending the past year on the practice squad. It wouldn’t be surprising if Tuitele replaced Adams on the practice squad as that development-type player for this team.

If this is what the Bills envision for him, then a move inside would make sense as Zierlein notes in his scouting report. The Buffalo Bills drafted two offensive tackles but only one guard and this is a place Syrus Tuitele could grow and develop into over the next few seasons.
