Free-agent running backs that would help the Bills: Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson comes in first on this list, and here’s why. Peterson is still managing to do a good job as possible even on some of the worst-off teams in the league. In the past three seasons spent between Washington and Detroit, Peterson has put up over 2,500 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns. Not bad for a guy who’s going to be 36 years old heading into the 2021 season. His time in Washington was highlighted by this 90-yard touchdown run in which Peterson became the oldest player to score a 90 yard (or longer) touchdown.

Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll will most likely stay in 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR) to keep everything open, as that’s where Buffalo operated 71% of the time last year. Although the bulk of his success came in 22 personnel (2 TE, 2 RB, 1WR) earlier in his career, getting him in some zone, zone-stretch concepts where he can gain speed would be of most benefit to him at this point in his career. Peterson has had a bad history of fumbles, but in a limited role, these can be minimized.

If he can do decent in Detroit and Washington on non-playoff teams, just imagine what he can do for this Super Bowl contender.
