Second Round, 61st Overall: Carlos “Boogie” Basham Jr., DE (Wake Forest)
One of those picks that makes the Gregory Rousseau pick better is this selection of Carlos “Boogie” Basham Jr. out of Wake Forest. It remains to be seen if Rousseau will make an impact as a rookie but Carlos Basham Jr. is one that absolutely should be a part of this rotation very early in his career.
Basham Jr. was essentially a three-year starter for the Demon Deacons and while he didn’t have that huge year, he was steady and consistent year over year. The best season he had was in 2019 when he had 10 sacks and 18 tackles for a loss but followed that up with five sacks, 4.5 tackles for a loss in six games this past season.
The one thing that stands out with Carlos Basham Jr., and one of the reasons he should see more playing time as a rookie, is he can be moved anywhere along the defensive line. He could step in and play the role the Bills envisioned Quinton Jefferson playing last year. Carlos Basham Jr. has the size to line up on the edge but can slide inside on passing downs and put pressure up the middle.
