Updated Buffalo Bills Depth Chart: Where does Tommy Doyle fit?
It certainly appears to be a theme for the Buffalo Bills in this year’s draft class. They have focused exclusively in the trenches and now have also doubled up at positions. The Bills selected two defensive ends with the first two picks and now two offensive tackles with their last two picks.
The Bills selected Spencer Brown 93rd overall in the third round and followed it up with Tommy Doyle from the University of Miami (OH) with their next pick at 161st overall in the fifth round. This is where Tommy Doyle likely is positioned on the depth chart at the position.
Starters: Dion Dawkins (LT), Daryl Williams (RT)
Second: Bobby Hart, Cody Ford
Third: Spencer Brown, Tommy Doyle
Right now, I believe Tommy Doyle is probably the furthest down the depth chart but he is a player that wouldn’t be surprising that moves all the way up to Bobby Hart’s spot as the primary backup. The reason that Doyle could end up that high is he does have more experience at left tackle than Hart, Ford or Brown.
Tommy Doyle started at right tackle at the University of Miami (OH) but then moved to left tackle in 2019, starting 13 games there and then started three games this past season. He was first team All-MAC when he played left tackle and was part of an offensive line that allowed just two sacks per game in 2019. The question for Doyle is how steep the learning curve will be coming from the MAC to the NFL.

The selection of Tommy Doyle also increases the likelihood that Cody Ford would remain at guard but since there are questions with Brown and Doyle and their ability to contribute as rookies, I still have him listed here. If Doyle adapts quickly though he could end up replacing the role that veteran Ty Nsekhe filled as the primary swing tackle backup the past two seasons for the Buffalo Bills.
