Defensive Tackles

Players to Watch: Tyler Shelvin, Alim McNeill

This is a position that likely could wait to be addressed until Day 3 but there are two players to watch that could be drafted on Friday night. The Bills will likely be looking for a one-tech defensive tackle to pair with Star Lotulelei this season and then become the starter in the following seasons.

The first player is North Carolina State’s Alim McNeill who is a big tackle at 6’2″ and 320 pounds that could definitely be the team’s starting one-tech. While he does a good job of run-stuffing, he also brings more of a pass rush than what Lotulelei does. He finished his college career with 10 sacks and 17.5 tackles for a loss and could help create pressure up the middle alongside Ed Oliver.

The other player is Tyler Shelvin out of LSU who is also a big defensive tackle at 6’3″ and 346 pounds. He is more of the traditional run stuffer and doesn’t bring much to this defense in terms of pass rush. Shelvin also opted out of this past season due to the pandemic and his playing time is much more limited than McNeill as he was only a full-time starter one season (2019).
