Round 2, 61st Overall: Payton Turner, EDGE (Houston)

In the second round, the Buffalo Bills address one of their biggest weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball with the selection of Payton Turner out of the University of Houston. Turner is a player that could contribute to the Bills’ rotation as a rookie but has the potential to be a full-time starter in the coming years.

During his time at Houston he didn’t necessarily put up the biggest stats but he improved season over season. This past season was his best even though he played in only five games and had a season-high in sacks (5) and tackles for a loss (10.5).

The defensive end position is one that the coaching staff likes to rotate players through frequently so good depth is important. However, they also need to get younger with Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison as older veterans at the top of the depth chart. Payton Turner is the right player in the second round that is an ascending player that is just scratching the surface of his best football.
