Defensive Tackle

The first position that the Buffalo Bills could wait until the final day of the NFL Draft is defensive tackle and more specifically a one-tech tackle. This is a player who takes up space, clogs running lanes, and engages with multiple blockers to allow linebackers and safeties to close on the ball carrier quicker.

The Bills do have Star Lotulelei returning this season and this is a role that he plays very well. However, he is getting towards the end of his career and the Bills should be thinking about drafting his eventual replacement. This season though that player can also contribute as the coaching staff likes to rotate their defensive linemen regularly so the right player could see 30-40% of the defensive snaps as a rookie.

When looking at this position there are players like Tyler Shelvin out of LSU and Alim McNeill who could be third round picks but if they fall to Day 3 should be on the Buffalo Bills’ radar. However, if those players are gone there are still others like Florida’s Tedarrell Slaton or Texas A&M Bobby Brown III, that could be a future starting tackle in this defense.
