The Buffalo Bills are going to most likely select a cornerback in the 2021 NFL Draft and if Caleb Farley is still on the board when they are on the clock in the first round, he could be the pick. Let’s take a closer look at Caleb Farley and how he might with the Buffalo Bills.

NFL.com Scouting Report by Lance Zierlein

"Farley possesses rare size for the position and does an excellent job of utilizing his frame and length to charge rent inside the catch space. While his traits and ball skills will be coveted, he’s still light on overall reps at the cornerback position. He needs to continue to improve his technique and discipline as he displays inconsistencies staying connected to routes at times. Farley is an ascending talent who fits more cleanly in a press-heavy scheme. Might require early patience as he continues to gain the polish necessary to become a quality NFL starter. Concerns surrounding his past injuries and latest back procedure could cause him to slip in the draft."

How he fits with the Buffalo Bills

Caleb Farley is one of the top cornerbacks in this year’s draft class but has some concerns that could drop him in the first round, potentially as far as the Buffalo Bills. One of his top concerns is his injury history as he missed the 2017 season due to a torn ACL, then missed two games due to back spasms in 2019. Even after sitting out all of last year, Farley still recently had a procedure on his back but all indications are that it went well.

While the Bills should do their due diligence, a player like Farley would certainly be worth the risk because if he remains healthy he has the potential to be a top cornerback in this league. He has great size and more importantly can play both man or zone coverage.

This type of flexibility could give the coaching staff the option to vary their defensive scheme and give opposing offenses new looks.

The other reason that Caleb Farley makes sense is while the Buffalo Bills would like an upgrade this season, they have players who could start this year if Farley needs time to recover from any nagging injuries left over from college. He doesn’t necessarily need to be rushed on the field which could benefit both sides.

If the Buffalo Bills were to add a player like Caleb Farley, and he reaches his potential, the defense could have one of the top duos at the cornerback position in the league.
