Round 5, 174th Overall: Tedarrell Slaton, DT (Florida)

The run defense really struggled and one of the big reasons was the absence of Star Lotulelei. The team’s starting defensive tackle opted out of the 2020 season due to the pandemic and his absence was certainly noticeable last year.

While Lotulelei is expected to return this year, he isn’t a long-term answer for the starting one-tech position. Since the Bills do have the starter this year, they can wait a little longer and take a player like Tedarrell Slaton, who has the physical tools but needs more time to develop.

The Draft Network’s scouting report describes a player who is very powerful and carries his weight well. However, during his time at Florida he wasn’t the most consistent against the run and struggled with balance. If the Buffalo Bills believe these are things that can be corrected with more development and focusing on technique, he could be a steal here in the fifth round.
