The Buffalo Bills have been active at the linebacker position this offseason. It started with bringing back their own free agents and reaching new deals with Matt Milano and Andre Smith. They then added outside free agents Tyrell Adams and Marquel Lee on one-year deal.

However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t add another linebacker in the 2021 NFL Draft and one player who has met with the Bills already is Boston College’s Isaiah McDuffie. This is what McDuffie has done in college and how he might fit with the Buffalo Bills.

How he would fit on the Buffalo Bills

The similarities between Isaiah McDuffie and Matt Milano go beyond the fact that both played for Boston College. When watching McDuffie’s highlights he plays very similar to Milano and has a similar build (Milano is 6’0″ and 221 pounds).

There was no question that the Buffalo Bills missed Matt Milano on the field when he was out with injuries last season. The defense struggled in areas, particularly defending opposing tight ends which is something Milano does very well.

If the Buffalo Bills were to draft McDuffie, it would likely be with the idea that he would be the primary back up to Milano. However, he would also likely take over for A.J. Klein in future years as that third linebacker when the Bills play a 4-3 defense. In addition, he would likely be expected to be a key contributor on special teams as Zierlein notes in his scouting report.

The Buffalo Bills have not been afraid to draft undersized linebackers and Isaiah McDuffie could be a good fit for this defense.
