Round 5 – 161st Overall: Jamien Sherwood, S (Auburn)
While it may not have grabbed significant headlines, the news of Dean Marlowe signing with the Detroit Lions is a big loss for the Buffalo Bills. He was the team’s primary backup at safety and knew this defense well as he essentially spent his entire career in Sean McDermott’s scheme dating all the way back to their time together with the Carolina Panthers.
This also makes the safety position more of a need with the team’s only other safeties on the roster being Jaquan Johnson and Josh Thomas behind the starters of Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde.
The selection of Jamien Sherwood would not only address this need as depth but at 6’2″ and 220 pounds he could play the big nickel role as a rookie. This is a position that is probably going to be even more important going into this season considering the Patriots went out and added two top tight ends while the Dolphins still have Mike Gesicki, who had a good season last year.
This is a player to watch on Day 3 as the Buffalo Bills have already reportedly met with the former Auburn safety.
