On the defensive side of the ball, the focus for the Buffalo Bills appeared to be to improve the depth. More specifically, it was to find players who have experience as starters that could step in if the need were to arise.

This is what the depth chart likely looks like for the Buffalo Bills on defense after the recent free agent moves.

Buffalo Bills Defensive Ends

Starters: Jerry Hughes, Mario Addison

Bench: A.J. Epenesa, Efe Obada, Darryl Johnson, Mike Love, Bryan Cox Jr.

The defensive end was a position the Buffalo Bills probably would have liked to improve more but with the contracts some of the top free agents got, they just couldn’t afford it with some of the other moves. They made a push to sign J.J. Watt before the start of free agency but after he signed with the Cardinals, there wasn’t much available to them.

However, the addition of Efe Obada could be a great move as he is a player who appears to still be improving and agreed to a one-year deal this offseason. This past season with the Carolina Panthers he recorded 5.5 sacks as a rotational player and this is where he will likely fit on this defense.

One player to watch is A.J. Epenesa, who after a quiet rookie season, could push Mario Addison for the starting job opposite Jerry Hughes this season.
