The Buffalo Bills continue to add depth across their roster and on Friday made another move to bolster their offensive line with the addition of Jamil Douglas. The two sides agreed to a one-year deal, according to the team’s website.

Douglas knows the AFC East well after starting his career with the Miami Dolphins after they drafted him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. As a rookie, he started six games for the Dolphins, however, he was released prior to the 2016 season.

He did return to the franchise as a member of their practice squad but was then cut a month later. After that, he had stops with the New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, and Indianapolis Colts but didn’t appear all on the practice squad.

Recently he has been with the Tennessee Titans and has appeared in 29 games over the past two seasons, including five starts.

The addition of Douglas follows up another move earlier in the week when the Buffalo Bills signed Bobby Hart to a one-year deal. This now gives two veterans as depth along the offensive line that will be competing for jobs in training camp.

Hart will be competing for the backup tackle job, a position that opened up with the departure of Ty Nsekhe who signed with the Dallas Cowboys.  As for Douglas, he will be competing to win a backup job on the interior of the offensive line at guard to replace Brian Winters, who signed with the Arizona Cardinals.

While this will surely change over the next few months, and potentially in the NFL Draft, the depth at offensive guard is essentially non-existent outside of Jamil Douglas. While it is assumed that Ike Boettger will return this is not necessarily a guarantee. He is currently a restricted free agent and while the Buffalo Bills do have the right to first refusal based on the tender they offered, another team could sign him to a deal the Bills just can’t match.
