Ron Rivera vs. Sean McDermott
The connection to the Carolina Panthers is well documented since Sean McDermott took over as head coach. One of those connections is with Ron Rivera, who previously was head coach of the Panthers and now holds the same title with Washington.
McDermott was actually Rivera’s defensive coordinator for the first six years Rivera was with the Panthers but their history goes back even further. When McDermott entered the NFL around 1998, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles and a year later Rivera also joined the Eagles as linebacker coach, a position he held until 2003.
The two coaches have faced off only once in the regular season prior to this year, which came in 2017 in McDermott’s second game as head coach. The Carolina Panthers would come away with a 9-3 win as the Bills’ offense struggled to move the ball that game.
The Buffalo Bills have gone through significant changes since the last time the two coaches have faced off and this should be a very different game.
