Buffalo Bills: Plenty of storylines with added game against Washington
The NFL agreed to significant changes for the 2021 season this week with the addition of a 17th game being added to the schedule. This news means the Buffalo Bills will play the Washington Football Team next season at the newly re-named Highmark Stadium.
While the two organizations do have history, most notably meeting up in Super Bowl XXVI, they have not played each other much recently. In fact, they have only played four times since 2007 with the latest matchup coming in 2019 when the Bills won 24-9.
Even though the two teams have not played much, there is plenty of storylines heading into this additional game. These are some of the more notable ones at this point in the offseason.
Ryan Fitzpatrick returns to Buffalo
Depending on when this game is played, Ryan Fitzpatrick could once again be leading a team into Western New York against his former team. Fitzpatrick played for the Buffalo Bills from 2009 to 2012 and had a 20-33 record over that time.
Since leaving Buffalo, Fitzpatrick has played for a number of teams, including division rivals the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. The last time he played in Buffalo was in 2019 and while he played well with 282 passing yards with one passing touchdown and one interception, the Bills ultimately came away with the win by a score of 31-21.
For his career, Fitzpatrick has played the Buffalo Bills eight times and has a record of 3-5. He certainly will be looking to move that record closer to .500 in this game with Washington.
