On Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills added linebackers Tyrell Adams and Marquel Lee with one-year deals. These two players help solidify the depth at the position but more importantly give the team experienced linebackers with starting experience.

This past season, the depth was tested early in the season as the Bills lost Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano in the first game of the season and they sat out Week 2. While Edmunds was able to return the following week, the Bills did not get a completely healthy Milano until the playoffs.

In addition to Edmunds and Milano, the Bills also had Tyrel Dodson miss a number of games and throughout the season would sign players like Deon Lacey and Darron Lee.

This season, the Bills appeared set to go into the season with mostly an unchanged position group with Andre Smith and Matt Milano agreeing to new deals. They would be joining Edmunds, A.J. Klein, Tyrel Dodson, and Tyler Matakevich. One of the concerns though is after Edmunds, Klein, and Milano the other three have limited starting experience.

This is probably one of the reasons the Buffalo Bills were interested in adding Lee and Adams as both players have been starters at times in their career. This past season, Tyrell Adams started 12 games in place of Bernard McKinney, who suffered a season-ending injury. He would go on to have a career year with 125 total tackles, which was 12th in the NFL last year.

As for Marquel Lee, he has started 19 games over the past four seasons which included 10 in 2018. However, he has struggled to get back onto the field after suffering an ankle injury after five games in 2019. That injury forced him to miss all of last season after he failed a physical and the Raiders released him prior to the season.

It remains to be seen exactly how this will play out, and there certainly is no guarantee either player makes the final regular season roster. However, the addition of both players gives the team experience at the position and creates an intriguing training camp battle with Tyrel Dodson and Andre Smith for those final spots at the position.
