One of the under-the-radar losses for the Buffalo Bills this offseason was Ty Nsekhe leaving in free agency to join the Dallas Cowboys. He was a veteran tackle that could step in at either left or right tackle if the need were to arise.

The Bills potentially found his replacement this week by signing offensive tackle Bobby Hart. He previously had been with the Cincinnati Bengals for the past three seasons and prior to that was with the New York Giants. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

In his career, he has played in 79 games with 66 starts, including 45 starts in the past three seasons with the Bengals. According to Pro Football Focus, Hart allowed four sacks last season, which was tied for 19th, three penalties (tied for 39th), and 872 snaps (tied for 39th).

The addition of Hart certainly gives the Bills a veteran depth option at the position considering the other tackles on the roster were Ryan Bates, who has played in 24 games but has zero regular-season starts, and Trey Adams, who was an undrafted free agent last year and spent the season on the practice squad. However, unlike Nsekhe who could play either tackle position, Bobby Hart has primarily only played on the right side.

This, combined with below-average performance for most of his career and the fact Hart agreed to only a one-year deal, doesn’t necessarily mean the Buffalo Bills are done at this position. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them draft a player or two, or even sign an additional free agent, to really solidify the position.

The addition of Bobby Hart essentially gives them more options and potentially the answer for this need if they don’t find an offensive tackle they like in the NFL Draft later this month.
