The Buffalo Bills once again entered an offseason with a question at quarterback but unlike past years, the question lied at the backup quarterback position. This past season Josh Allen emerged as a franchise quarterback but with Matt Barkley set to be a free agent, who had been the backup for two and half seasons, and little known about Jake Fromm, there was a possibility the team could bring in another quarterback.
That possibility became a reality with the Bills agreeing to a one-year deal with Mitchell Trubisky. The former second overall pick had an up and down four years with the Chicago Bears and after they elected to not pick up the fifth-year option, he became a free agent this offseason.
The backup quarterback position is one that is often overlooked but could end up being very important to a team’s success over the course of a year. If the Buffalo Bills were to lose Josh Allen for an extended period of time, they need a veteran to step in to keep their playoff hopes afloat until their franchise quarterback would be able to return.
These are four reasons why the signing of Mitchell Trubsiky was a great move for the Buffalo Bills and could pay dividends next season.
