As the roster currently sits, the Atlanta Falcons only have one quarterback on their roster and that man is Matt Ryan. The Falcons had an extremely disappointing season in 2020 and had some fans calling for the team to trade Matt Ryan.

Matt Ryan is still a capable starter in the NFL, but he will be 36 years old by the time the 2021 regular season is set to kick off. Last year the Falcons’ backup quarterback to Matt Ryan was 39-year-old Matt Schaub. With Ryan and Schaub as the only quarterbacks on the roster, there wasn’t a young quarterback with talent that the fan base could rally around as the heir apparent to Matt Ryan.

With the 4th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, I’m sure there are some Falcons fans that are hoping that they draft a quarterback in the 1st round. However, this Atlanta Falcons roster has more pressing needs than getting a younger quarterback. As old as Ryan is getting, he is still a productive NFL quarterback. With that being said, it would be prudent to find his successor this offseason.

By striking a deal with the Buffalo Bills for Jake Fromm the Falcons can get their successor to Matt Ryan at a relatively low cost. There is nothing about Fromm’s game that indicates he is ready to be an NFL starter right now, but perhaps a year of learning behind an established veteran like Matt Ryan could help speed up his development. Additionally, this would put Fromm back in the state he played his college football.
