Round 4

Moving onto the second of the two 4th round picks I acquired from the trade back with the Jacksonville Jaguars, I still need to address the defensive line. With the 130th overall pick in this mock draft, I selected edge rusher, Patrick Jones, from Pittsburgh.

Although the Buffalo Bills drafted A.J. Epenesa last year and agreed to terms on a salary cut with Mario Addison, there is still a need to get younger and more productive off the edge. At 6’5″ and 260 pounds Jones is an NFL ready edge rusher that can come in and produce as a rotational edge rusher. I think he could even come in and challenge Addison for the starting edge spot opposite of Jerry Hughes.

Unlike a lot of edge rushers in this draft class, Jones has a deep bag of pass rushing moves and has a plan when it comes to pass rushing. He has a great inside move, a solid spin move that he doesn’t use too often, a good swim move, and has decent bend around the edge. Some people argue that Jones is so refined as a pass rusher that he has already reached the peak of his development. I disagree, I think with NFL coaching and solid mentors like Mario Addison and Jerry Hughes, Jones could elevate his game even higher.

To be perfectly honest, I would be shocked if Jones falls this far down in the draft. I think he will be picked late on day two of the draft in round 3, but he was on the board for this PFF mock draft in the 4th round so I can’t complain.
