The next prospect that Bills fans should keep on their radar is former Syracuse cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu. According to Ryan Talbot, the Buffalo Bills had a “really good” meeting with Melifonwu at the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

At about 6’3″ and 215 pounds, Melifonwu is a big corner with rare athleticism to match that size. He really burst onto the scene in 2019 in which he recorded 20 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 7 passes defended, and 2 interceptions in 9 games played. Melifonwu added to that production in 2020 with 54 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 6 passes defended, and 1 interception in 10 games played. These numbers show that not only is Melifonwu a good coverage corner, but he knows how to use his size to come up and help in run support. Additionally, Melifonwu’s length makes it easier for him to break up passes by getting his hands in on the catch point.

These traits I mentioned above make him a good fit for Sean McDermott’s zone coverage style defense. Currently, Melifonwu is projected to be a day two pick likely to be selected in the second round. However, his draft stock is rising after a solid performance at the Senior Bowl. There’s a chance that the Buffalo Bills view him as the best player available with their pick at 30th overall. With that being said, he would be a much better value for the Bills if he’s still available for their second round pick at 61st overall.
