Round 5 – 164th overall

Cornerback Paulson Adebo – Stanford

Although I have already mocked Paulson Adebo to the Bills before, I’m going to continue to do it if he’s sitting on the board in round five. This guy was once considered a day one pick, and because he opted out of the 2020 season his draft stock has seemingly plummeted.

I was sitting on the board at 161st overall and saw Adebo available but thought I should get some more value out of it so I made a small trade down. The Bears were interested in my pick at 161 and they were only three slots behind me at 164. I ended up making a trade with them to move back three picks and acquire an additional third round pick in 2022 for the cost of the 161st overall pick and the Bills seventh round pick at 234th overall.

At 6’1″ and about 190 pounds, Adebo has the prototypical size and athleticism to be a perimeter cornerback at the next level. What sets him apart from others in the class are his ball skills, this guy can jump routes for interceptions and contest the catch point at a rare level. In only 22 games played, he had 8 interceptions and 27 passes defended in his sophomore and junior year combined. The downside to Adebo’s game that may scare some teams away is his lack of consistency in run support situations.

With that being said, Adebo’s combination of length and ball skills should be very attractive to someone like Sean McDermott who utilizes zone coverage heavily.
