2021 Cap Hit: $2,250,000

2021 Cap Savings: $2,250,000

2021 Dead Cap: $0

Another player who has carved out a role as a specialist on this team is tight end Lee Smith. The past two seasons, Smith has been primarily a blocking tight end that doesn’t contribute much as a receiver in the passing game. This past season he had only six targets but did catch two touchdowns on those six targets.

The veteran tight end is entering the final year of his three-year deal but once again this is a significant salary for a player who is primarily one-dimensional.

However, the decision may not ultimately be up to the Buffalo Bills. Last month, Smith hinted at the fact that he is considering retirement. If he were to retire, the Bills would still get the savings but it would be dependant on when he elects to retire.

Next. 5 free agents the Bills could target to replace Andre Roberts. dark

If the Buffalo Bills want to have that cap space available at the beginning of free agency, they should release him now.
