Potential day two prospects to target

The first of the day two prospects that the Bills should target as a possible replacement to Daryl Williams is former Clemson Tiger Jackson Carman. Playing in the ACC, Carman has had valuable game reps against some NFL quality edge rushers during his time as a Tiger. Carman has two years of starting experience, but both of those years are at left tackle. The Bills would be in the market for Carman as a right tackle which is somewhat concerning, but not enough to ignore him as a prospect to target.

Carman’s game can certainly translate over to right tackle as he has the play strength and athleticism to add value as a run blocker. At 6’5 and 330 pounds, Carman may not be the most athletic, but it isn’t an area to be concerned about at the next level. The biggest concern for Carman at the next level is pure quickness, as he has a tendency of being just a bit too slow in his drop set to stop speed rushers around the edge. If he can beat speed rushers to the spot around the edge, he has the strength to sustain a clean pocket. Carmen will most likely get picked in between the Buffalo Bills first and second round picks, but there’s always a chance for prospects to slide.

The second of the day two picks that the Buffalo Bills should target is former Notre Dame offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg. During his time playing as a member of the Fighting Irish, Eichenberg was a three-year starter at left tackle. Similar to Carman, Eichenberg played in the ACC and got plenty of quality game reps against high end talent at the edge position.

At 6’6 and just over 300 pounds, Eichenberg has prototypical size for an NFL offensive tackle. Many draft experts say that Eichenberg is the most polished offensive tackle in this draft class and I tend to agree. He doesn’t have the same upside that others in this class have, but he is more than capable of stepping in as a starter on his first day.

It’s unlikely the Buffalo Bills have a chance at Eichenberg with their second round pick, but ever prospect has a chance of sliding down draft boards. The fear that Eichenberg has already reached his ceiling could be enough for him to slide to the Bills selection in the second round. However, the Bills would be lucky to scoop him up in the second round as he could contribute from his first day at One Bills Drive.
