The Buffalo Bills had one of the most memorable seasons in some time as they won their first AFC East title since 1995 and made it within one game of the Super Bowl. There are certainly a number of reasons for their success but this past offseason general manager Brandon Beane made some key moves that really brought everything together.

These are the three best moves that the Buffalo Bills made in last year’s offseason.

3. Drafting Tyler Bass

This may be a move that is often overlooked but played a pivotal role over the course of the season. The Buffalo Bills had a veteran as their starting kicker in Stephen Hauschka and drafted Tyler Bass in the sixth round as competition.

The rookie would end beating out Hauschka prior to the season and by the end of the year, it was clear it was the right move. He would finish the year making 28 of 34 field goal attempts and 57 of 59 extra point attempts during the regular season. Bass would also finish fourth in points scored with 141, only three points behind the league leaders.

The strong leg of Bass also paid off in the field position battle as he finished tied for third in touchbacks on kickoffs with 71. That is a significant increase from what Hauschka was able to as he had 72 touchbacks combined between 2018 and 2019.

It was certainly a risk going with a rookie at this position with no preseason games to evaluate him but in the end, it was without a doubt the right move.
