Buffalo Bills: Josh Norman discusses the Derrick Henry stiff arm
The Buffalo Bills had many memorable moments from this past season but one memorable moment included Josh Norman. It is a moment that many Bills fans would probably like to forget.
The play came in Week 5, which was Norman’s first start with the Buffalo Bills, and the defense was preparing to face Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry. The big running back is tough for opposing defenses because of size and physicality.
The play came in the second quarter as Henry took a handoff, cut left and started to turn upfield as Norman came in to make the tackle. However, Henry got the better of him and had one of the biggest stiff arms of the season.
On Tuesday, Josh Norman went on The Pat McAfee Show and was asked about that play. He said:
The response by Josh Norman was an excellent response and speaks to him as a player. As the Bills cornerback notes, there aren’t many players that would have even put themselves in that situation with Derrick Henry running at full speed in the open field.
The focus for Josh Norman was just to try and make a play for his team and get the ball back. If he makes the play he said “I can be put on 1,000 memes.”
The Buffalo Bills added Josh Norman last offseason to compete with Levi Wallace for the starting job opposite Tre’Davious White. He appeared to have the inside track in training camp but suffered a hamstring injury that forced him on injured reserve for the first three weeks. He eventually returned in Week 4 but didn’t get his first start until the game against the Titans.
As the season went on, he eventually worked into almost an equal rotation with Wallace (once he returned from injured reserve). This rotation did enough for the defense but this a position the Buffalo Bills should seriously consider upgrading this offseason. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if Norman returned to provide the team with veteran depth at the position.
