Dean Marlowe
Season Stats: 15 games played (4 starts), 22 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 QB hits 2 interceptions, 3 passes defended
This past season Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde remained very healthy with Hyde missing only one game. This doesn’t create many opportunities for other safeties to get on the field but Dean Marlowe did see some time and certainly made the most of his opportunities.
He replaced Hyde in Week 8 when he missed the game with a concussion and had six total tackles and the key fumble recovery in the closing minutes that secured the win for the Buffalo Bills.
While Marlowe wasn’t a regular contributor at safety, the coaching staff continued to try and find ways to get him onto the field. He had a sack in Week 16 against the Patriots and had his first, then second career interception in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins.
One of the questions for this position has always been depth due to the fact that Poyer and Hyde have proven to be so durable. The play of Marlowe this past season should be enough to bring him back next year and be confident in his ability if he needs to play extended snaps.
