For the third straight year, the Buffalo Bills entered the season with the duo of Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde as their starting safeties. Over those years, these two have continued to improve and are now considered one of the best safety combinations in the NFL.

This is a review of some of the key players at the position and grades for their play last season.

Jordan Poyer

Season Stats: 16 games played (16 starts), 124 total tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 4 QB hits, 2 interceptions, 5 passes defended

When the Buffalo Bills signed Jordan Poyer in 2017, he was largely an unknown. However, he has quickly developed into one of the top safeties in the game and the Bills rewarded him with a contract extension prior to the year.

This season was more of the same from Poyer as he had 100 or more total tackles for the straight year with at least two interceptions. He continues to be a versatile part of this defense as the coaching staff is able to move him around, either close to the line supporting the run or pressuring the quarterback, to dropping back and being that deep safety defending the pass.

He was one of the most consistent players on the Buffalo Bills and consistently played at a high level every game.
