Matt Milano’s future in Buffalo

As mentioned before, Matt Milano’s contract has expired, making him an unrestricted free agent. This means he is free to sign with any team he would like. As a result of the declining salary cap, there is a possibility the Buffalo Bills may not be able to match any offers Milano is offered.

Re-signing the outside linebacker is a must for the Bills this offseason. During his time in Buffalo, Milano has established himself as a staple of the defense. Providing excellence in pass-coverage and the ability to stand in the box and stop the run, parting with this talent would be crushing for the defense.

Lucky for Buffalo, Milano’s injury history may play into how much money he is offered. While it is awful to hang that over a player and offer less due to something a player has no control over, it is a part of playing in the NFL. Coming off an IR stint that lasted five weeks, where Buffalo could have used his help, his past may affect how much he is offered.

If Milano intends to stay in Buffalo, in a Leslie Frazier scheme that he had success with, Buffalo will have to make room for him. Players like WR John Brown and Daryl Williams may be the odd men out, but letting a talent like Milano walk is blasphemous.
