Round 7 – Pick 25 (239th Overall)

In last year’s draft, Brandon Beane waited until the Buffalo Bills’ last pick to address the need for depth at the cornerback position. Nevertheless, with everything we learned from the 2020 NFL season, it appears the Bills may have found a gem at cornerback in the seventh round.

Although Dane Jackson only suited up for five games this past year and only played in four, he made his presence felt on the limited snaps he got. In his first-ever start, Jackson had two pass breakups and one interception against the New York Jets. Jackson would go on to add to his limited highlight real in Week 9 by making a tough physical tackle on D.K. Metcalf, then the next week he had a key pass break up in the end zone while guarding DeAndre Hopkins on an island.

To play in only four games and still accumulate one interception, five pass breakups, thirteen solo tackles, and one tackle for a loss says a lot about his game. Jackson is a solid cornerback with good coverage and ball skills despite lacking top-end athleticism, but his toughness and willingness in run support make up for a good chunk of any coverage deficiencies.

Moving forward, the Bills shouldn’t get too hopeful that Jackson is the answer to all the problems at the cornerback two position, but he should definitely provide some comfort in regards to depth while he is on a team-friendly rookie contract.

In hindsight, there is nothing I would change about this seventh-round pick. This is yet another pick that Brandon Beane proved he can find value anywhere in the draft.
