Taron Johnson

Another player who seemed to always come up big when the Buffalo Bills needed a play was nickel corner Taron Johnson. While that wasn’t always the case early in the season, and he even appeared to be benched in Week 6 against the Kansas City Chiefs for Cam Lewis, he finished the year playing some of his best football.

In the first five games of the season, Johnson gave up 24 receptions on 32 targets for a completion percentage of 75%. However, over the last 11 games of the regular season, he allowed 29 receptions on 47 targets for a completion percentage of 61.7%.

He also made arguably the two biggest plays of the entire season with an interception returned for a touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the regular season. He then added another touchdown during the playoffs when he intercepted Lamar Jackson and returned it over 100 yards for the score.

The fact the Buffalo Bills use their nickel defense so much makes Taron Johnson an important part of this defense. The improvements he made certainly helped this group finish the season the way they did.
