The Buffalo Bills offense was one of the best offenses in the NFL and this was due in large part to Brian Daboll. The performance of the offense, or Daboll, didn’t go unnoticed and he was named the Associated Press Assistant Coach of the Year during the NFL’s award show on Saturday evening.

Daboll joined the Buffalo Bills as offensive coordinator in 2018, the same year the team drafted quarterback Josh Allen. These two have been following a similar trajectory and after two average seasons, the Bills offense took off and was the strength of this team.

The Bills finished tied for second in yards per game with 396.4, third in passing yards per game with 288.8, second in points per game with 31.3. In addition, the Bills had a number of players on offense set franchise records like Josh Allen breaking the record for most passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season while Stefon Diggs set the record for most receptions and receiving yards.

The play calling, especially near the red zone, was a big reason for the Buffalo Bills’ success. Brian Daboll always seemed to have a trick up his sleeve that would confuse the defense. The Bills finished the regular season with 13 players catching a touchdown, including Josh Allen, which tied the NFL record for most players to catch a touchdown on a single team in a season.

The performance of the offense made it seem like it was a foregone conclusion that this would be the final season for Brian Daboll in Buffalo. He appeared to be destined for a head coaching position this offseason and at one time was considered the favorite for the Los Angeles Chargers job.

While Brian Daboll’s time with the Buffalo Bills is probably still limited, there is no question that this team is fortunate to have Daboll running this offense for at least one more season.
