Buffalo Bills: Grading Josh Allen’s performance in 2020
During the season, I handed out grades for each position based on their performance from that game. However, now that the 2020 season has come to a close it is time to hand out grades for the Buffalo Bills over the entire season.
The first player up is quarterback Josh Allen, who had a breakout season and emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. This is a review of his stats and his grade for this past season.
Review of the 2020 stats
Josh Allen for the third straight year improved a majority of his stats from the prior season. He finished the year starting all 16 regular-season games with a completion percentage of 69.2% (an increase of 10.4%) while throwing for 4,544 passing yards with 37 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also added 421 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
2020 Awards
It doesn’t look like Josh Allen will win league MVP but he did win a number of accolades during the course of the year. He would end up winning AFC Offensive Player of the week four times (Week 2, Week 9, Week 13, Week 15), AFC Offensive Player of the Month twice (September and December), named to his first Pro Bowl, and was selected to the second-team All-Pro.
Final Grade for 2020 Season
The development Josh Allen showed over the course of the season is nothing short of remarkable. Entering this season, Allen had never thrown for over 300 yards and would end up doing that nine times, including two games where he threw for over 400 yards.
There were also questions entering this season about his accuracy and he would go on to complete over 70% of his passes in 10 games.
The amazing part is that watching Josh Allen it is clear there is still plenty of room to grow for the former first round pick who is only 24 years of age. The way Josh Allen took command of this offense this year should give fans confidence that this past season was not a one-time occurrence for the Buffalo Bills and they will be competitive for years to come.
Grade: A+
