The big news in the NFL is that Deshaun Watson formally requested a trade from the Houston Texans. While the Buffalo Bills are not going to be apart of the Watson sweepstakes, there is a chance that they will be impacted.

The Bills are in a fortunate position where they know they have a franchise quarterback in Josh Allen after the season he had. However, the same can’t be said for the other three teams in the AFC East.

There are two teams in particular that look to have the necessary draft capital to make a trade work. While the New England Patriots have a big need at quarterback, they don’t have the multiple first round picks the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins have this year.

The Jets have five picks in the first three rounds including the second overall and 23rd pick in the first round. They could potentially create a package around a couple of first round picks and Sam Darnold that might interest the Texans.

They also have over $65 million in cap space, according to Spotrac, that would allow them to take on Watson’s contract and still have room to improve their roster.

The other team is the Dolphins who have four picks in the Top 50 picks, including the third overall pick which was the Houston Texans pick before they traded it to the Dolphins as part of the Laremy Tunsil trade.

The Dolphins are in an interesting position because they did just select Tua Tagovailoa last year with the fifth overall pick. They are also coming off a 10-win season but a case could be made they got to ten wins in spite of Tagovailoa who didn’t have a great rookie season.

Similar to the Jets, the Dolphins could start the discussion with their two first round picks and Tua Tagovailoa.

There is no question that likely half the league is going to be interested in trading for Deshaun Watson. He is a player who is in the prime of his career, under contract for the next few seasons, and has performed at a high level.

However, not every team has the pieces to trade the Texans like the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. This could mean the Buffalo Bills should begin preparing themselves for the idea of playing Deshaun Watson twice a year for the foreseeable future
