The Buffalo Bills last week faced the best rushing offense in the NFL and one of the best defenses in the league. This week the Bills are set to face the best passing offense in the NFL but a defense they should be able to move the ball on.
This is where the Kansas City Chiefs ranked this regular season on offense and defense in a few key stats.
Offense
Total Yards: 415.8 yards per game (1st)
Passing Yards: 303.4 yards per game (1st)
Rushing Yards: 112.4 yards per game (16th)
Points: 29.6 points per game (6th)
The Kansas City Chiefs rely heavily on Patrick Mahomes and rightfully so as he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league today. Mahomes, along with pass catchers like Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, makes this a dynamic passing attack.
However, when they do run the ball they are very efficient as they had the 10th fewest rushing attempts in the league this year but rank 12th in yards per rushing attempt at 4.5 yards per carry. The last time these two teams met, the Bills sold out to stop the pass, which they did for the most part, but the Chiefs were able to run for 245 rushing yards.
For this game, the coaching staff will need to find a balance this week of not letting Patrick Mahomes get going but also stop the run a little more.
Defense
Total Yards Allowed: 358.6 yards allowed per game (16th)
Passing Yards Allowed: 236.2 yards allowed per game (14th)
Rushing Yards Allowed: 122.1 yards allowed per game (21st)
Points Allowed: 22.6 points allowed per game (11th)
As for the Kansas City Chiefs defense, they are middle of the pack in pretty much every defensive category. They rank between 11th and 21st in the categories listed above but do make up for it in forcing turnovers as they ranked fifth in the NFL with 16 interceptions.
They also have seen teams start to score more points against them in the second half. In the final eight regular season games, opponents scored 24 or more points in five of those games. While the Kansas City Chiefs do have some playmakers, this isn’t like the Baltimore Ravens defense the Bills played last week.
This Buffalo Bills offense should have a chance to put points up on the scoreboard and this game could have the makings of being a shootout.
