Buffalo Bills: 4 options to replace Leslie Frazier if he leaves this offseason
Jim Leonhard
The Buffalo Bills could also look to the college ranks for a potential replacement at defensive coordinator and a good fit could be Jim Leonhard. If that name sounds familiar to Bills fans, that is because he played in Buffalo from 2005 to 2007 and returned again in 2013.
In four seasons, he started 14 games at safety and had 118 total tackles and six interceptions.
After retiring, Leonhard went on to be a coach and has been the defensive coordinator for his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin, since 2017.
The resume he has built in a short period of time is rather impressive and ranks in the Top 5 nationally in a number of defensive categories:
"Over his first four seasons, the Badgers ranked third in scoring defense (17.2 points per game), fourth in total yards allowed (297.9 yards per game), fifth in rushing defense (112.3 ypg) and fifth in pass efficiency defense (109.0). Wisconsin forced the second-most turnovers of any FBS team during that span, with 104, and the Badgers’ 68 interceptions also ranked No. 2 nationally."
If Jim Leonhard wanted to start coaching in the NFL, this would be a great opportunity to learn from Sean McDermott and at the same time lead one of the more talented defenses in the NFL.
