Buffalo Bills: Stefon Diggs wins AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 16
After his performance against the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
There were a lot of big performances on Monday night as the Buffalo Bills ran away from the New England Patriots 38-9. One of the reasons for the blowout was the play of wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who finished the game with nine receptions for 145 yards and three touchdowns.
The Buffalo Bills have gotten fairly accustomed to having a player named Offensive Player of the Week but it has been Josh Allen to this point, who has won the award four times. As Buffalo Bills PR notes, this is the first time a Bills wide receiver has won the award since 1994 when Andre Reed did it.
The addition of Stefon Diggs has gone better than anyone could have even imagined. The Buffalo Bills traded for Diggs in the offseason by sending four draft picks, including a first round pick, to the Minnesota Vikings. At the time, there were questions about whether or not the Bills had given up too much. There was also the question about whether or not Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs could build a connection with very limited offseason work.
Both of those questions have been emphatically answered as Diggs leads the league in receptions with 120 and receiving yards 1,459. He currently has a streak of at least nine or more receptions in the past four weeks and surpassed 130 receiving yards in the past three weeks.
This first season with the Buffalo Bills hasn’t just been good but has been record-setting. He has broken two franchise records in consecutive weeks after breaking receptions in a single season against the Denver Broncos he broke the record for receiving yards in a single season against the Patriots. Both records had previously been held by Eric Moulds.
