Start Fast

Similar to last week, it will be important for the Bills to get out to a quick lead. The primary reason for this is to dictate the game script. If the Bills get an early lead, in theory, this should lessen the frequency of Patriot running plays.

However, in their first meeting this season the Bills had a two-possession lead, but the Patriots still elected to run the ball attacking the Bills’ defensive weakness. Heading into Week 16, the Bills have certainly improved their ability to slow down opposing running attacks. With that said, the Patriots will most likely decide to lean on their running game as much as they can until the game clock makes them pass.

Additionally, in their first matchup of the season against the Patriots, the Bills showed their most committed effort to running the football. If the Bills can control the game script and get up to a big lead in the first half, it should allow the duo of Devin Singletary and Zack Moss to put the game away in the second half.

Furthermore, the Bills should have an easier time moving the football through the air against this Patriots defense without Stephon Gilmore active. Although the secondary of this Patriots defense is its strength, without Gilmore, the Bills pass catchers should find it easier to separate from coverage.

Although it is still uncertain whether the Bills will be with or without John Brown this week, the Buffalo pass catchers have really stepped up all season with his lingering injuries.
