Buffalo Bills: Inside the numbers of the New England Patriots
This is where the Buffalo Bills Week 16 opponent, the New England Patriots, rank in the NFL in some key stats.
The Buffalo Bills are back on primetime this week as they prepare to face the New England Patriots for the second time this season. These are the stats for the Patriots heading into Week 16, although the numbers may not tell a good story about what team they could be facing on Monday night.
Offense
Total Yards: 330.8 yards per game (24th)
Passing Yards: 185.7 yards per game (29th)
Rushing Yards: 145.4 yards per game (6th)
Points: 20.6 points per game (27th)
The New England Patriots offense has struggled for most of the second half of the season. The offense has leaned heavily on the run game but this is due to having Cam Newton under center. They rank sixth in rushing yards per game but have the third most rushing attempts in the NFL.
However, this week could be different as there are questions about who the starting quarterback could be. Since the Patriots are no longer in playoff contention, they could give Jarrett Stidham the start which would mean more of a balance between run and pass.
Defense
Total Yards Allowed: 345.4 yards per game (11th)
Passing Yards Allowed: 212.4 yards per game (6th)
Rushing Yards Allowed: 133.0 yards per game (27th)
Points Allowed: 21.5 points per game (7th)
While there was a lot that went wrong for the New England Patriots this year, they still had one of the best pass defenses in the league. Josh Allen had one of his worst games of the season when the Buffalo Bills played the Patriots in Week 8. He finished the game with 154 passing yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
However, the run game had one of their best games of the season as Devin Singletary and Zack Moss both ran for over 80 yards against the Patriots. It appeared going into that game that the gameplan was because as good as they are against the pass, they struggle against the run.
It is hard to imagine the coaching staff moving too far off this gameplan heading into Monday night’s game.
