Slow Down Denver Run Game

Entering Week 15, the most effective part of the Denver Broncos offense is their ground attack. Although Drew Lock and the passing game experienced their best game of the season last week, the Broncos won’t deviate far from their identity with the running game.

The Broncos currently rank 13th with 1,523 total rushing yards to this point in the season and rank 15th in yards per rush with about 4.3 yards per attempt. At 117 rushing yards per game, these aren’t crazy numbers by the Broncos offense that put fear in their opponents. With that being said, it’s clear and obvious in comparison to their passing game that their ground game is the most threatening part of their offense.

As mentioned before, the Buffalo Bills’ run defense has been inconsistent for the most part of the season. However, in recent games, the Bills have been much better at defending against the run.

Although they are trending in the right direction heading towards the playoffs, the Bills defense is still near the bottom of the league in terms of defending against the run. At about 120 rushing yards allowed per game, the Bills defense ranks 19th in total rushing yards allowed at 1,559 rushing yards and they rank 22nd in yards allowed per attempt at about 4.6 yards per carry.

Lining up against Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay, the Buffalo Bills will certainly have their hands full defending against a pair of complementary backs. Gordon is more of the complete back that is extremely balanced, he can catch out of the backfield, make people miss with elusiveness, or power through defenders and fight for yards after contact.

Lindsay on the other hand is primarily a speed back that excels when he makes one cut and accelerates through the run gap. Both are equally talented running backs in their own ways and neither should be overlooked if the Bills want to be successful in slowing down the Broncos run game.
